Kinematic Modeling of Machine Tools




Kinematic modeling of machine tools seeks to relate the relative displacements of the tool tip and the point on the workpiece in contact with the tool. In modeling these displacements through the kinematic chain of a machine tool, co-ordinate transformations are used for both shape features and joints of the machine tool. The common approaches used for kinematic modeling of machine tools include :
The workspace approaches attempt to quantify the total workspace errors of a machine tool without breaking it down to individual elemental errors (shape errors of parts and joint errors). The elemental approaches start with the errors of individual shape features (parts) and joints and synthesize them into a global workspace errors using co-ordinate transformations through the kinematic chain.
