Waste Streams - Chips

Chip Types Page

The geometries discussed in the morphology page can be combined in a variety of ways. The figure below shows graphically what may be created. The ribbon, tubular, spiral, washer and conical helical chips are less desirable for handling and disposal. The elemental chips are ideal. Needle chips are mostly associated with the interrupted cutting conditions of endmilling.

The figure is reprinted from the textbook, "Fundamentals of Machining and Machine Tools," 2d Edition, by Boothroyd and Knight, p. 227.
